Welcome to Aurubis Netherlands B.V.

Aurubis Netherlands B.V. is located in Zutphen and part of the Aurubis Group, a leading integrated copper group and world’s largest copper recycler. The headquarter is located in Hamburg. Aurubis Group produces each year approx. 1 million ton of copper cathodes, in a variety of copper products. Aurubis Group has approx. 6.500 employees, over different production locations in Europe and North-America

Aurubis Netherlands B.V. is one of the four dedicated production units of the flat rolled products (FRP) business line. Aurubis Netherlands B.V. employs 330 people.

The mill produces copper and brass strip for:

  • Engine Cooling (Radiators, oil coolers, charged air coolers);
  • Stamping (connectors);
  • Deep drawing (buttons, lamp caps);
  • Cable wrap (shielding);
  • Brazing foil (plate heat exchangers).

Aurubis Netherlands is specialized in the production of thin brass (0.075 – 2.000 mm) and copper strip (0.030 – 0.350 mm). Strip widths are possible in the range 5 – 620 mm. The cast shop produces brass alloys in the range 63% – 90% copper (remainder being zinc). Re-rolled copper strip is obtained from the sister-mill Schwermetall (Germany). Special alloys have been developed in-house for engine cooling applications.

Several characteristics of the production unit:

  • Very efficient processing due to vertical, continuous casting technology (unique, in-house developed process);
  • Edge quality (absence of burr) and consistency of properties are recognized as benchmark qualities;
  • Galvanic coating operations possible (mainly tin coatings for connector applications);
  • Strip can be supplied in coils, drums (spools) or conti-coil;
  • Current production capacity approx. 50,000 tons per year;
  • Approximately 330 employees;
  • The products of the Zutphen mill are exported globally (over 400 customers in more than 70 countries);
  • Fast delivery times of standardized material grades are possible through several Service Centers in Europe;
  • The mill is certified according to ISO 9001, ISO TS/16949 for quality standards and ISO 14001 for environment;
  • Customer support for Engine Cooling through technical center in Sweden (design and prototyping of radiators).

More about Aurubis Netherlands B.V.

Aurubis Netherlands B.V. was originally founded in 1965. Svenska Metallverken, who was the owner at that time, needed a subsidiary inside the European Community close to the heart of the German automotive industry and also close to the Rotterdam harbor (for oversees export). Svenska Metallverken was one of the biggest companies of Europe in producing aluminum, aluminum alloys, copper, copper alloys and endproducts of these metals. With the new build factory in Zutphen, Svenska Metallverken was settled outside of Sweden for the first time.

Production volumes increased continuously and reached a top level in 2004 under Outokumpu ownership. The mill belongs to the Aurubis Group since 2011. In 2015 Aurubis Netherlands celebrated their 50th anniversary.
